Bayern Munich star reveals Joshua Zirkzee attempted to recruit him to Manchester United, while Man United and Newcastle United are now competing to sign the same free agent.
United secured Zirkzee from Bologna for approximately £36 million in July, and he’s already made a significant impact, netting the decisive goal against Fulham on his debut.
Before his time in Serie A, the forward spent five years in Munich, rising through the youth ranks alongside Musiala and developing a close friendship with the German star.
Although they have since parted ways on the field, they still maintain a strong bond off it. They were even seen vacationing together over the summer after their involvement in Euro 2024.
As a result, a video that went viral on social media shows a Red Devils fan playfully asking Zirkzee, while getting his autograph,
The Dutchman laughed and replied, “tried, I’ve tried,’ and it seems he wasn’t lying. Musiala has now confirmed the two did jokingly discuss a transfer to Old Trafford.
“You always joke around with friends and dream of playing together in a team one day,” the 21-year-old told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.
‘The jokes go both ways. I also told Josh that he should come back to Bayern. But you shouldn’t take that too seriously.”
Regarded as one of the top young talents globally, Musiala has notched 44 goals and 31 assists in 166 appearances for Bayern.
Widely viewed as Germany’s top player, the attacking midfielder could have played for England and previously trained in the academies of Southampton and Chelsea.
He would have undoubtedly been a remarkable addition to United, but the likelihood of him leaving Munich seems virtually nonexistent, even with only two years remaining on his contract.
“I am very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals with the club and the national team,’ Musiala added when asked about his future.
“I don’t think too much about where I will be playing in five years. Things can always change quickly in the world of football.”
Meanwhile, Zirkzee is on international duty with the Netherlands and is expected to return to action for United on September 14, when they face Southampton away.
As of September 7, 2024, French media continues to link Manchester United and Newcastle United with a move for Adrien Rabiot.
The 29-year-old has been a free agent since his Juventus contract ended in June. Despite Juventus’s persistent attempts to retain him, he embarked on a new adventure.
Unfortunately, that opportunity hasn’t come to fruition yet, so Rabiot is spending his summer staying fit and enjoying boat outings in the Mediterranean.
Didier Deschamps may have nudged him this week. When asked about the midfielder, the France manager expressed his frustration that Rabiot has yet to secure a new club. Deschamps also stated that once Rabiot finds a new team, he will be welcomed back into the France squad.
Here’s a French international who played a key role for Juventus during his tenure. He’s available on a free transfer. Who’s interested?
According to Saturday’s edition of Le Figaro, Manchester United and Newcastle United are the interested clubs.
They reported that Barcelona was interested, but their financial turmoil prevented them from moving.
The French newspaper suggests that the two Premier League clubs might make an offer soon. They need to act quickly, as Deschamps is growing impatient.
